Andrea Kimi Antonelli extended his winning streak to four with victory at the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix, capitalising when Mercedes teammate George Russell retired with a power unit problem just past half distance.
After a tense sprint the day before, the Mercedes pair resumed their fight at the start on Sunday in Montreal. Russell’s stoppage delivered a significant blow to his title ambitions and left Antonelli clear to control the race.
With one Mercedes out, the focus shifted to the battle for second between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Hamilton, driving for Ferrari, secured P2 with a bold pass around the outside of Turn 1, leaving Verstappen to complete the podium.
Charles Leclerc came home fourth for Ferrari. Behind him, Isack Hadjar salvaged fifth for Red Bull despite serving both a 10-second penalty and a stop-and-go penalty, marking his best finish for the team.
McLaren’s afternoon quickly unravelled after an unusual decision to start on intermediate tyres on a dry track. Lando Norris initially hit the front but had to pit for slicks, then retired with a reliability issue. Oscar Piastri received a penalty for a collision that eliminated Alex Albon and ultimately finished 11th.

Antonelli’s run of four consecutive wins underscores his early-season momentum, while Russell’s non-finish raises fresh questions over reliability at Mercedes. Teams now turn their attention to investigations and setup refinements ahead of the next round, with McLaren’s tyre call and Russell’s power unit issue in particular under the microscope.
