Kimi Antonelli extended his Formula 1 championship lead to 20 points with a third consecutive grand prix victory at a weather-affected Miami GP. The Mercedes driver gained track position over Lando Norris at the pit stops and then kept the reigning champion at bay to cap round four of the season.
The 19-year-old Italian had already won in China and Japan to take the initiative over team-mate George Russell before an enforced five-week break following the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian rounds due to the war in the Middle East. Despite a tricky sprint in Miami, Antonelli converted a third successive pole into another win, becoming the first Italian to claim three F1 victories in a row since Alberto Ascari in 1952.
Norris, who won Saturday’s sprint and is armed with an upgraded McLaren, looked a consistent threat through the weekend but could not overturn Antonelli’s advantage once the race strategy played out.
