Miami GP 2026: Antonelli wins as penalties shake up order

Kimi Antonelli converted pole into his third win of 2026 in Miami, extending his championship lead. Post-race penalties dropped Charles Leclerc to eighth and left Max Verstappen fifth despite a pit-exit infringement. Lando Norris set fastest lap as McLaren filled the podium’s other two steps.

The FIA has confirmed the final classification for the Miami Grand Prix after post-race penalties reshuffled places behind the podium, capping an eventful fourth round of the 2026 Formula 1 season.

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli converted pole into victory for the third time this year, extending his lead in the drivers’ standings. He saw off McLaren’s Lando Norris around the Hard Rock Stadium venue to take the flag by 3.264 seconds, with Oscar Piastri completing a double podium for McLaren, 27.092s adrift.

George Russell secured fourth for Mercedes, while Max Verstappen was classified fifth for Red Bull. Verstappen received a five-second time penalty for crossing the white line at pit exit, but held the position once the stewards’ decisions were applied.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished sixth on the road yet slipped to eighth after a 20-second time penalty. That promoted Lewis Hamilton to sixth, with Franco Colapinto taking seventh for Alpine as the order behind the top five was recalculated.

Williams earned a double-points haul, with Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon rounding out the top 10 in ninth and 10th. After the points scorers, Oliver Bearman (Haas) headed the lapped runners in 11th, followed by Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi) in 12th and Esteban Ocon (Haas) in 13th.

Arvid Lindblad (Racing Bulls) finished 14th ahead of Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) in 15th. Sergio Perez (Cadillac) and Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) came home 16th and 17th respectively, all one lap down, while Valtteri Bottas (Cadillac) was 18th, two laps adrift.

Four drivers failed to see the chequered flag and were listed as non-classified: Nico Hulkenberg (Audi), Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls), Pierre Gasly (Alpine) and Isack Hadjar (Red Bull).

Norris also recorded the fastest lap of the race, a 1:31.869 set on lap 35. The remainder of the top-10 gaps at the finish were Russell at +43.051s, Verstappen at +48.949s (including his five-second penalty), Hamilton at +53.753s, Colapinto at +1:01.871, Leclerc at +1:04.245s (after his 20-second penalty), Sainz at +1:22.072s and Albon at +1:30.972s.

Antonelli’s triumph — his third win from three poles — underscores the Mercedes driver’s early-season momentum and strengthens his position at the top of the championship. McLaren’s double podium, paired with Norris’s fastest lap, highlighted the team’s pace on a day when post-race stewarding decisions played a decisive role in finalizing the order.

What’s next: Formula 1 stays in North America for round five at Montreal’s Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve. The Canadian Grand Prix is scheduled for May 24 at 4pm local time (9pm UK) following a three-week break after Miami, having moved from its traditional mid-June slot to a May date ahead of Monaco.
